High on a ridge in the Auvergne the benedictine monastery of Notre-Dame de Randol is a gem of modernist twentieth century architecture. The building was started in 1968 and the first monks arrived in 1971. Unfortunately only the church is open to visit on a daily basis, the rest of the site is accessible via guided tours in July and August.
