I’m starting a new project this month, based on the roadside verge. A lane passes north and south through our village and I’m concentrating on a half mile each way. Not just the flowers but anything I find interesting connected with the verge.
The aim is to build up a body of work in both colour and black and white that reflects all aspects of these important strips of nature alongside the tarmac.
Hopefully I can address some of the following questions.
Is there a good range of wildflowers and grasses?
How often is it cut during a year?
What do the hedgerows contribute?
What effect does the abutting fields have on the verge?
Here’s the first photos taken last week.
All photos taken using a variety of Fujinon and vintage Olympus/Pentax lenses on my Fujifilm X-T2 digital camera.
What a great idea! I may do that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ thing. I loved that tree project you had too.

It’s a lovely little camera, especially for travelling easy. It’s been superceded now though by a 100V!
