Le Puy en Velay was our local Prefecture town. Many of our favourite walks in the area entered on, or started from Domeyrat All featured its lovely castle, now sadly closed to the public, though it was only ever open in July and August.
Every year we visited a local plant fair, which took place in a pretty village above the Allier river.
Our first view of what was to become our home in France for six years. The garden and trees took a bit of taming!
We lived on the edge of a large forest, with forest walks all around us. If you got up early enough the light through the trees was amazing.

All the summer visitors are now gone and the Champagnac-le-Vieux plan d'eau (public bathing lake) is now a quiet haven for walkers and fishermen.
